Hi! Welcome to my blogfolio? I’m Amy, a mid-twenties girl in the software industry. My pronouns are She/Her. I can’t often speak about the work I’m doing in the office, but I can share the projects I’ve worked on in my spare time. I’m also the Local Party Contact for the South Gloucestershire Green Party.

Here’s some questions that people haven’t asked but I hope you might be wondering:
Why Liafeon?
Liafeon started as a joke in the Pokémon draft league I play in. I very quickly decided it was good enough to be my semi-permanent online identity. Leafeon is a Grass type Pokémon which evolves from Eevee, my favourite Pokémon. Lia is a nickname I’ve used since around February 2024, it’s short for “Amelia”.
Some of my previous online identities are:
- fr0st
- sigmoyd
- ScopeN
What do you do for work?
I’m a “Primary Storage Engineer” at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. To give a bit more detail, I work on the Alletra Storage portfolio, a range of block storage devices used by companies like Red Bull Racing and Balz Infomatik.
I recognize some of your previous names, where from?
Before I left university I was heavily involved with the Rocket League community. I wrote my first article about Rocket League in 2019, for (as it was at the time) “octane.gg”. I made the jump to Rocket Kingdom and then GGRecon in 2020. I enjoyed a moderately successful time as an amateur commentator and tournament organiser before receiving the call up to administrate the RLCS ahead of the 2021-22 season.
I started winding down my involvement over the course of my last year of university, before quitting Rocket League altogether in November 2024 (although I still hold it close to my heart).
Why software?
Funnily enough, I originally wanted to go into pharmaceuticals. But, in 2017, I realised chemistry wasn’t for me. I had a decent programming background so I committed to doing Computer Science in sixth form.
Other subjects didn’t really gain my interest, and so I did a degree in Computer Science at Loughborough, starting in September 2020, the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
What are some of your favourite projects?
- OpenBracket – conceptually my most advanced project idea, though it never fully came to fruition. My dissertation project shares a name but is a shell of my original intentions.
- CarballTV – a fully autonomous livestream and associated program that exploited the naming pattern of replay uploads for the RLCS to generate live match standings.
What are your thoughts on artificial intelligence?
I think the artificial intelligence that produces weather models is pretty neat. I also think that large language models (LLMs), when used responsibly, can be useful tools. I do not use LLMs to write my code, but do use it at work for tasks like auto-completion.
Fundamentally LLMs are just guessing the next word in the phrase they output. Their working memory is too small for meaningful conversation about anything that requires more than a simple context.
